The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada

2026 marks 30 years of Black History Month in Canada, a significant milestone to honor Black brilliance across generations from nation builders to tomorrow’s visionaries. This is the time to recognize the enduring legacy of Black Canadians whose leadership, creativity, innovation, and resilience have shaped our past, continue to influence our present, and will inspire future generations.
During Black History Month, we are reflecting on how Black history, identity, and culture are critical to shaping the experiences of Black youth today.
The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada (CAFC) is proud to support Soul Journey, a program for Black youth in care to build connection, belonging, and pride by engaging with Black history firsthand through learning and excursions to historic sites that hold deep significance for Black communities.

These experiences help Black youth connect to their shared history, honoring the nation builders who came before them, while building confidence and courage to imagine and carve out their own paths forward.
The program also helps reaffirm our shared responsibility to dismantle systemic barriers that contribute to the overrepresentation of Black children and youth in care. CAFC is committed to deepening our partnerships with Black-led and Black-focused initiatives to address these inequities, while recognizing the power of culture, community, and identity each and every day.

Please help support children in the foster care system by making a donation – just click on the logo below. Every penny helps!

SCREEN CAPS

This month we have 496 screen caps from the Motive Season 1 final episode The One That Got Away. Louis plays Detective Oscar Vega in the “Why-dunnit” series.

Summary: The victim: seventeen year old Nathan Conroy. The killer: twenty-something Cam Radcliffe, who lives with his Uncle Dave and works at Dave’s wrecking yard. Nathan’s dead body is discovered buried in an urban park, he who died of an abdominal stab wound. However, the lack of blood at the site indicates that he was not murdered at the park itself. When Homicide IDs the victim as Nathan, they learn that he was convicted for possession of a deadly weapon four months earlier and that he was court ordered to enter into therapy with Dr. Kate Robbins. Angie is familiar with Dr. Robbins as the doctor was a key expert witness at a manslaughter trial over ten years ago at which Angie was a juror prior to her becoming a police officer. Dr. Robbins’ testimony was what convinced Angie to change her mind as to the guilt or innocence of the defendant, who was acquitted.

Here is this month’s chapter.

Today’s Regulation Tool: Water (still or bubbly)

In high-stress moments, regulation doesn’t always have to be elaborate.
Sometimes it’s as simple as drinking water.
Still water or something bubbly can help cue a pause in the nervous system:
– a moment to slow your breathing
– a physical sensation that brings you back into your body
– a predictable, neutral action when everything else feels loud

Carbonation can add gentle sensory input.
Cold temperature can sharpen awareness.
And hydration supports your body doing what it’s already trying to do, cope.
It’s not a cure.
It’s not magic.
But it is accessible, repeatable, and often enough to take the edge off in the moment.
Regulation doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.
Sometimes it’s just… a sip.

Most people think powerful performances come from pushing actors harder.

But more productions are discovering the opposite.

From Hamnet to recent films built on emotional containment and preparation, the industry is quietly changing how emotion is supported on set.
And audiences are feeling the difference.
