Haven Toronto and St. Michael’s Homes
For many of the men at Haven Toronto, Canada’s only daytime shelter for elder homeless men, art is a way to slow down, breathe, and find a moment of inner calm.
It’s not about being “good” at art, but rather about letting things out and feeling grounded.
These sessions are gently led by one of our volunteers, Amy, who creates a calm, welcoming space for everyone.
No pressure. No experience needed. Just show up and create.
Click on this month’s schedule to see all the different activities and programs offered at Haven Toronto:

The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada
We’re incredibly proud to share a historic announcement.
To celebrate 30 years of philanthropy, The Joyce Family Foundation has made a transformational $10 million investment to create the Ron Joyce Excellence Awards at Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada for youth with lived experience in the child welfare system.
This extraordinary endowment honors the legacy of Ron Joyce (1930–2019), who believed that every young person deserves a chance to succeed. As one of Canada’s most legendary entrepreneurs and philanthropists, he was guided by a deep commitment to access, opportunity, and fairness.
Through this endowment, thousands of young people from care will have the support they need to stay in school, graduate, and build futures defined by possibility.
Education can change a life. But belief changes everything. Thank you to The Joyce Family Foundation for investing in young people, building confidence and independence, and opening doors to greater opportunities for generations to come.
CAFC Scholarships are now open!
Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada scholarships support young people from care across four education paths, from one-year programs to graduate studies, all through one application.
Applications opened December 22, 2025.

SCREEN CAPS
This month we have almost 600 screen caps of the House of David Season 1 episode 7 David and Goliath Part 1. This episode sets the stage for the famous confrontation, focusing on Jesse’s (Louis Ferreira) reluctance to send David to war, David’s burning desire to fight, and King Saul’s growing despair as the giant Goliath challenges Israel, highlighting themes of faith and duty amidst rising tension and preparation for battle.
Jesse refuses to send David to war, clinging to his dislike for King Saul and preferring David stay home, while David yearns to join his brothers and serve God in battle.
Prophet Samuel pushes Jesse to confront his resistance and offer his best—referring to David—to God as the ultimate sacrifice, linking the delay to a greater plan and timing for David, foreshadowing David’s destiny.

THE 4th READING SERIES: MR. MUGS – ROCKETS AWAY!
The fourth monthly reading series continues in Mr. Mugs – Rockets Away! – Part 2 by Martha Kambeitz and Denise Burns.
Unlike previous readers, this volume was published as a hardcover book within the Level 3 series of the Mr. Mugs readers. It was originally released in 1968. The Mr. Mugs books have been out of print for many years but occasionally you can find them on eBay, Amazon Marketplace or various other antique book dealers.
Louis credits the Mr. Mugs books series with helping him to learn English at a very young age.
You can listen to all the previous book readings under the Reading Series Tab, and you can read and listen to the first part of this book here.
Here is this month’s chapter.

Chapter 66: Just the Thing! (continued)

A camel sat down on a dainty gilt chair,
I really don’t know how he came to be there,
But I think he just wanted to join in the fun
Of drinking hot cocoa and eating a bun.

FRIENDS NEWS
Aryn Mott
Aryn is an Intimacy Coordinator and Mental Health Professional in the Vancouver area. Intimacy coordinators are intimacy professionals who work on film, television, and performance capture projects.
Aryn shares daily tips on her Instagram feed on how to deal with stressful situations – both on movie sets and in daily life.
Today’s regulation tool is one I love because it’s been passed down.
My grandpa used it with my mom. My mom used it with me. And now I use it for myself.
It’s the beauty of co-regulation becoming self-regulation.
Take your pointer finger. Extra fun if you have nail designs.
Gently rub up the bridge of your nose, sweep over one eyebrow,
come back to the nose, then go up and over the other eyebrow.
Repeat, slowly, while taking calm, mindful breaths.

Why this works:
This gentle, repetitive touch combined with slow breathing sends signals of safety to the nervous system. It helps activate the parasympathetic system, the part of us that supports rest, digestion, and calm, bringing the body out of stress and back into balance.
It’s simple. It’s grounding.
And it reminds us that regulation can be learned, shared, and carried forward.

Aryn is the Intimacy Coordinator on Heated Rivalry on Crave TV. They are sharing some interesting information about Barriers & Modesty Garments on set:
“When filming close-contact scenes for film and television, barriers and modesty garments are part of the behind-the-scenes reality.
You’ve probably seen Heated Rivalry trending lately: incredible story- telling, intense proximity, charged rivalries, romance, big emotions. Intimacy scenes like these are carefully supported with practical tools that help performers work safely and confidently.
Barriers are used to:
– create clear physical separation
– limit direct body-to-body contact
– reduce physical sensation
Modesty garments are available in different skin tones and coverage options to support a range of bodies, wardrobe needs, and camera requirements.
Together, these tools help maintain clarity, consistency, and comfort, so performers can focus on the story being told. These moments aren’t about taking away character impulse, but it is about creating a collaborative language and protocols that are shared.
What looks effortless on screen is often the result of thoughtful preparation behind it.”

Patrick Gilmore
Patrick wanted to let everyone know that his series School Spirits launches its third season at the end of the month.

This interior refresh softened the angles, lifted the ceiling feel, and brought the whole room back into harmony. No renovations. No disruption. Just clean prep, intentional color, and a flawless finish. This is what thoughtful interior painting looks like when it’s done professionally.
This is the kind of update you feel the moment you walk in. Cleaner. Lighter. Put together.
Whether it’s one room or the whole interior, we focus on clean lines, proper prep, and finishes that hold up long after the brushes are gone.
