Haven Toronto is a day center supporting elder homeless men since 1933. Open 8AM – 4PM, 365 days a year, they are the sole Canadian organization dedicated exclusively to men 50+, serving a roster of approximately 1,000 clients at any given time, with 30% over the age of 60, 80% homeless, and 100% facing food insecurity. Nearly 50% of the operational funding relies on donations from generous individuals, foundations and corporations.

Do you like pizza?
Of course you do! No matter your dietary preference of restriction, there is a pizza for you!
The folks at Haven Toronto love pizza, too, and you can sponsor their next pizza party! Just click on the picture to learn more.
You will not only ensure everyone’s having a great time, but you’re also directly helping to provide elder homeless men with a fresh, warm meal!
Of course you can also give to the general operating fund of the organization by clicking on the logo below. Please note that you will be linked to our very own donations page which still bears the former name of the shelter – The Good Neighbours Club. Your donation will still arrive at Haven Toronto and St. Michael’s Homes.

The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada
The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada supports children in the foster system so they may get a better start in life. There are many ways you can make a difference for these kids who had to leave their families due to no fault of their own.
Shop WonderKits and give symbolic gifts that represent real impact. Each one helps youth from care create a moment they knew their future could change. Until December 31, 2025 every WonderKit will be MATCHED by a generous donor up to $100,000!
Every October, many child welfare agencies across Ontario unite to raise awareness about the role we all have to play in supporting children, youth, and families in our community who are facing challenges through the Dress Purple Day campaign.
On Thursday, October 16, countless supporters joined The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada and their partners by wearing something purple to show children, youth, and families that they are not alone.
Together, we can build a future where every young person feels safe, supported, and seen.
And if purple just isn’t your color but you still want to help just click on the logo below to make a donation. Every penny helps!

Hidden Hills
Multiple episodes of the NBC sitcom Hidden Hills have been posted on YouTube – go watch them there while they’re still available! The series is one of Louis’ all-time favorites as he really got to stretch his comedic muscles on it. He plays Doug Barber, the suburban dad who is constantly pestered by his family, friends and acquaintances, not to mention his wife’s friends!

Shooter
18 years after it first opened in theaters, audiences are rediscovering the once-beloved action thriller that starred Wahlberg alongside a killer supporting cast. It might not have won over critics or raked it in at the box office, but the film is currently a major success on streaming.
Shooter had a killer supporting cast, and we weren’t lying. Alongside Wahlberg, the film also stars Kate Mara, Danny Glover, Michael Peña, Rhona Mitra, and Louis Ferreira.

THE 4th READING SERIES: MR. MUGS – ROCKETS AWAY!
The fourth monthly reading series continues in Mr. Mugs – Rockets Away! – Part 2 by Martha Kambeitz and Denise Burns.
Unlike previous readers, this volume was published as a hardcover book within the Level 3 series of the Mr. Mugs readers. It was originally released in 1968. The Mr. Mugs books have been out of print for many years but occasionally you can find them on eBay, Amazon Marketplace or various other antique book dealers.
Louis credits the Mr. Mugs books series with helping him to learn English at a very young age.
You can listen to all the previous book readings under the Reading Series Tab, and you can read and listen to the first half of this book here.
Here is this month’s chapter.

Chapter 64: Just The Thing! (continued)

… to be continued next month!
“I don’t want to change color,”
said Tiger. “Yellow’s a good color.
But I want to do something for you.
You can be my class. Look up here.
One and one are. . .”
“TWO!” they shouted.
They laughed and ran around the room.
“We won’t go back to that zoo book.
This is real fun!”

FRIENDS NEWS
Aryn Mott
Aryn is an Intimacy Coordinator and Mental Health Professional in the Vancouver area. Intimacy coordinators are intimacy professionals who work on film, television, and performance capture projects.
Aryn posts daily instructional videos on how to cope with stressful situations both on and off set. Here’s a current offering:
Regulatory Tool of the Day: The Straw
It might look simple, but a straw can be one of the most effective nervous system regulation tools out there.
Here’s why it works:
Controlled, resistant breathing: sipping or exhaling slowly through a straw naturally lengthens your breath, activating the vagus nerve and calming the body.
Oral motor input + sensory feedback: the act of using your mouth and feeling that steady resistance provides grounding sensory information to your system.
Vagal stimulation: this gentle, accessible tool helps you shift from “fight/ flight” to “rest and regulate.”
For performers, it’s a quiet, subtle way to regulate when you’re feeling emotional bleed-off after a scene.
For crew (and honestly, every human in 2025), it’s a tool that fits in your pocket, perfect for those moments when the world feels just a little too loud or fast.
Sometimes the best regulation tools are the simplest ones.
Breathe in. Sip. Slow down. Reset.

Patrick Gilmore
Patrick made a new friend. He writes:
“This is Skoki Marie, of the East Coast Gilmores.
Ten years old. Lodge Mascot, Cheeky Keep-away Queen, Stalker of Squirrels, Airport Moral Manager in the summer, snoozy snuggler in the Winter.”

Sawyer Ferreira

Sawyer is enjoying the Fall season to full capacity, with Halloween disguises and another successful race:
“It’s Fall!
My advice? Grab a handful of leaves and toss them whimsically into the air.
Why? It’s Fall!”

Rob Munic and Ingrid Rogers
Rob and Ingrid were not to be outdone at Halloween, and they came up with this NSFW costume set…
Rob: “Babe! I have the best idea for our costumes this year!”
I highly recommended that you marry someone who rocks with you through all of your pitches. 23 years in and she still puts up with my brilliant ideas.
Ingrid: Once I saw the looks and smirks on the street I had some reservation but thankfully no children asked what we were…
