Haven Toronto and St. Michael’s Homes

Happy Pride from the Haven team!
We stand for inclusion, zero discrimination, and a space where everyone is welcome.

Haven Toronto is Canada’s only daytime shelter for elder homeless men.
We serve thousands of elder men impacted by poverty, homelessness, and isolation. They come for a nutritious hot meal and, while they are here, they can meet with our nurses and housing and crisis counsellors – no appointment necessary.

Besides nutritious meals there are vital services available to the men.

A partnership with St. Michael’s Homes, established earlier this year, expands the ways in which Haven Toronto can positively impact homeless or marginally housed elder men in the city.

Daily programming and activities round out these support services. Check out what’s on the docket for this month:

There are many different ways in which you can help support Haven Toronto. The official Donations Page outlines many types of donations that are accepted.

Of course you can also give to the general operating fund of the organization by clicking on the logo below. Please note that you will be linked to our very own donations page which still bears the former name of the shelter – The Good Neighbours Club. Your donation will still arrive at Haven Toronto and St. Michael’s Homes.

The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada

On June 17–18 we celebrated the 16th annual Joe Carter Classic, an unforgettable two-day tournament, uniting avid golfers, athletes, and generous sponsors in support of Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada. With this year’s contributions, the Classic has now raised more than $3 million to support access to education, mental health care, career training, and mentorship for youth across Canada.

We are excited to launch our 2024-25 Annual Report: In this document you’ll see how your actions helped drive progress last year. Together, we reached over 16,000 children, youth, and families across Canada, expanded programs like Safe at Home to new provinces and Indigenous-led partners, raised more than $103 million through Stand Up for Kids: Futures Transformed and advocated for changes in the systems that impact young people’s lives at both the provincial and federal level.

We’ve also launched Generation Impact, our new five-year strategic plan. Built in close partnership with young people, community organizations, and experts, it’s a bold vision for the future—one that reflects both the urgent challenges and the incredible strength of those we serve.
Generation Impact focuses on four critical priorities:
– Building strong families and lasting connections
– Supporting mental health and well-being
– Ensuring access to education
– Creating pathways to employment and stability

At Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada, we honor and affirm the diverse identities of 2SLGBTQ+ young people, especially those in care, who deserve to thrive in environments that celebrate who they are.
As we celebrate Pride Month, we want to highlight and share valuable resources from the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS), including their 2SLGBTQ+ Library Guide and Building 2SLGBTQ+ Community Partnerships guide.
These invaluable resources offer practical insights and strategies to help create supportive spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ young people, ensuring they feel safe, heard, and empowered.

On World Youth Skills Day we recognize the importance of equipping young people with the tools they need to find and maintain meaningful work. Since its inception in 2017, Youth Works has supported 3,381 young people aged 15- 29 in developing valuable job skills, accessing internships and placements, and receiving essential training and wraparound support.

The results speak for themselves: 93% of youth who participated enhanced career awareness and goal setting and 81% felt more optimistic about their future after completing the course. When young people gain the tools, skills, and confidence to succeed, they’re empowered to build brighter, more independent futures.

There are many more ways you can help kids in foster care gain a better start in life. Click on the logo below to learn more and donate!

SHOWS NEWS

House of David

From businessupturn.com: Release Date Speculation for House of David Season 2

While Amazon Prime Video has not announced an official release date for House of David Season 2, production is already underway, with filming updates shared by showrunner Jon Erwin on Instagram. Based on the production timeline of Season 1, which premiered less than a year after filming began, and considering the current pace of production, a spring 2026 release is a reasonable estimate. Some reports suggest a potential premiere as early as March or April 2026, while others point to a later date, possibly July or October 2026, depending on post-production schedules.

Potential Plot Details for House of David Season 2:
The upcoming season will focus on David’s ascent to the throne, navigating palace politics, family rivalries, and personal challenges. According to co-writer Jon Erwin, Season 2 will explore David’s transformation into a warrior and the complexities of fame and destiny, with “all the screws of intensity and drama” tightening as he faces new truths that threaten to unravel his journey.

Louis plays David’s father Jesse in the epic series. Check out some screen caps below!

SCREEN CAPS

This month we have 223 screen caps of a pivotal House of David episode – #103 The Anointing.

As King Saul’s madness shakes the kingdom, the prophet Samuel flees a dark pursuer. In Bethlehem’s fields, young David faces a destiny that will reshape Israel while ancient powers gather in shadow. Samuel seeks a new king for Israel. He travels to Bethlehem, where he initially overlooks the young David, focusing instead on his older brothers. After discovering David’s absence and receiving a divine revelation, Samuel anoints the shepherd boy as the future king, despite David’s humble background.

Read more detailed recaps here and here.

Louis plays David’s father Jesse and he gets some long scenes and great character moments in this episode.

THE 4th READING SERIES: MR. MUGS – ROCKETS AWAY!

The fourth monthly reading series continues in Mr. Mugs – Rockets Away! – Part 2  by Martha Kambeitz and Denise Burns.
Unlike previous readers, this volume was published as a hardcover book within the Level 3 series of the Mr. Mugs readers. It was originally released in 1968. The Mr. Mugs books have been out of print for many years but occasionally you can find them on eBayAmazon Marketplace or various other antique book dealers.

Louis credits the Mr. Mugs books series with helping him to learn English at a very young age.

You can listen to all the previous book readings under the Reading Series Tab, and you can read and listen to the first half of this book herehttps://www.louisferreira.org/the-4th-reading-series/

Here is this month’s chapter.

Chapter 60: Just the Thing! (continued)

… to be continued next month!

“I do!
I do!”

“It’s just the thing
for me,” said Giraffe.
“My long neck gets cold.
Won’t I look pretty in fur

“It’s about time I got something
like this!
I’ve always wanted some soft fur
for my neck.

“It’s just the thing. Thank you, Bear.
You’re a real friend.”

So Giraffe put on Bear’s fur.
The animals liked it.
