THE 2025 BIRTHDAY PROJECT
The 2025 Birthday Project is live!
Every year we do a special project for Louis’ birthday, which is coming up on February 20 (FYI, this is also the reason why the Ferreira Fest Newsletter is always published on the 20th of the month).
Everyone can participate and submit as many good wishes as they want – every good wish will generate an automatic donation to Haven Toronto. The project is fully funded by a generous sponsor.
Read more about it on the Birthday Project Page!
CALLING ALL OUR FRIENDS IN EUROPE: MEET LOUIS IN PERSON!
Louis and Jackie will spend the next three months in Europe. In between filming Season 2 of House of David, they plan on traveling through the whole continent, and they want to meet YOU!
Yes, you!

Send an email with your address, when you’ll be there, and an easy means to contact you (cell phone and email). Everything will be forwarded straight to Louis and he’ll be in touch to set up a meeting with you if it’s near his itinerary.
If you’ve always wanted to meet the man in person – now is your chance!

Haven Toronto

We hope you all had a warm holiday season!
Showcasing Haven’s talents! Pictured here is Haven member Dylan playing the beautiful Fender guitar which was generously donated by one of our volunteers and donors, Martin Blake, last year!
If you’d like to know exactly where your donation goes, check out the Kits for a Cause portal. Anything you purchase there goes directly to an elder man in need!
Of course you can also give to the general operating fund of the organization by clicking on the logo below. Please note that you will be linked to our very own donations page which still bears the former name of the shelter – The Good Neighbours Club. Your donation will still arrive at Haven Toronto. You may also want to donate to their partner organization, St. Michael’s Homes.
The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada
Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada welcomed 500 children, youth, and their guardians to our annual Holiday Season Celebration at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. It was a fun-filled day filled with laughter and joy–a beautiful reflection of the festive season spirit.
We are so grateful to our volunteer committee, generous partners, sponsors and donors for ensuring every detail of the event came together seamlessly and to our amazing volunteers, whose time, dedication, and kindness brought warmth and joy to every child in attendance.
Your efforts made this celebration unforgettable.
Here’s a way to donate without spending any of your own money! We have an ongoing campaign where we’re asking people to participate in a quiz – for each quiz completion, $20 will be donated by the KARE Foundation to children and youth! More information here. This is back in market for 2025!
Be An Ally!

THE 4th READING SERIES: MR. MUGS – ROCKETS AWAY!
The fourth monthly reading series continues in Mr. Mugs – Rockets Away! – Part 2 by Martha Kambeitz and Denise Burns.
Unlike previous readers, this volume was published as a hardcover book within the Level 3 series of the Mr. Mugs readers. It was originally released in 1968. The Mr. Mugs books have been out of print for many years but occasionally you can find them on eBay, Amazon Marketplace or various other antique book dealers.
Louis credits the Mr. Mugs books series with helping him to learn English at a very young age.
You can listen to all the previous book readings under the Reading Series Tab, and you can read and listen to the first half of this book here. https://www.louisferreira.org/the-4th-reading-series/
Here is this month’s chapter.

Chapter 54: The Guess Who Zoo – Part 3
… to be continued next month!
Part 3
It was Monday! Mrs. Day’s class was
in Mrs. Cook’s room. The surprise was ready.
Not a whisper was heard. Then. . .
Mary came out and said, “Hello!
We’re happy to see you. It’s time
for the Guess Who Zoo. We’ve
some funny zoo animals for you.
See if you can guess what they are.”
PHOTOS AND VIDEOS
Louis and Jackie wanted to share some photos from their Christmas celebration, as well as a fun little Holiday video that arrived a few days after the last Ferreira Fest was published, so just in case you didn’t check the newsletter later here it is again!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Louis wanted to share the story of The Mexican Fisherman by Heinrich Böll. Feel free to discuss it in our FORUM. More info about the story can be found here.

Today’s Regulatory Tool: Five-Finger Breathing
Need a quick reset? Try this simple yet powerful technique using just your hand!
1. Hold up one hand like you’re about to high-five yourself.
2. Trace your fingers with the pointer finger of your other hand.
- As you breathe in, trace up one side of a finger.
- As you breathe out, trace down the other side.
3. Repeat this process for all five fingers.
Why it works:
The movement gives your brain something to focus on.
- The deep breathing calms your nervous system.
- It’s discreet—you can do it anywhere (yes, even during meetings).
Feeling better? Good. Now go crush your day!

“The Writers Guild Foundation has teamed with the Northwestern Prison Education Program (NPEP) on the Justice-Impacted Writers Project (JIWP), a fellowship for aspiring writers currently incarcerated at Sheridan Correctional Center in Sheridan, Illinois. The start date is Jan. 9.
The fellowship will consist of weekly workshops (held in person or via Zoom) with the goal of guiding members to write an original pilot as a sample and pitch their projects to industry leaders upon completion. Workshops will be led by Horowitz and Pasen, with additional support from NPEP staff. In addition, each month will feature a lecture from established showrunners such as Barbie Kligman (Doc), Gary Lennon (Hightown), Matt Lopez (Sheriff Country), Robert Munic (The Cleaner), Christopher Silber (NCIS: Hawaii), and Craig Sweeny (Elementary). They will serve on the JIWP Advisory Board along with top industry executives, talent agents, and producers.”
