Haven Toronto

Haven Toronto is Canada’s only daytime shelter for elder homeless men.

The annual Winter Clothing Drive kicks off Wednesday, November 13th and culminates on Tuesday, December 3 (Day of Giving).

“As the cold weather approaches, our clients need warm boots, jackets, mitts, toques, gloves, socks and pants. I see firsthand how the clothing donations positively impact the men we serve.”

 – Deborah, Clothing Room Volunteer

You can drop new or gently used items daily from 8AM-4PM at 170 Jarvis Street, Toronto. We also accept financial donations. Thank you.

Haven Toronto is a day center supporting elder homeless men since 1933, open 8AM – 4PM, 365 days a year.  We are the sole Canadian organization dedicated exclusively to men 50+, serving a roster of approximately 1,000 clients at any given time, with 30% over the age of 60, 80% homeless, and 100% facing food insecurity. Nearly 50% of our operational funding relies on donations from generous individuals, foundations and corporations. Here are some highlights of the 3rd Quarter Impact report:

Of course you can also give to the general operating fund of the organization by clicking on the logo below. Please note that you will be linked to our very own donations page which still bears the former name of the shelter – The Good Neighbours Club. Your donation will still arrive at Haven Toronto. You may also want to donate to their partner organization, St. Michael’s Homes.

The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada

The annual Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada holiday campaign kicked off November 6 with a focus on the WonderKit Shop. A WonderKit is a package of support for children, youth and families involved in child welfare throughout Canada. This holiday season, fill your WonderKit by choosing from our curated gallery of gift options specifically tailored to address the unique needs of young people currently in care or transitioning out of care. Every contribution made through the WonderKit is not just a gift; it’s a tax-deductible donation to the Foundation, and if you donate before December 31, 2024, your gift will be doubled. After this, December 3 is Giving Tuesday and donations will also be matched on that day.
Check out some of the many wishes you can fulfill!

You can always read up here on the latest events and news.

Of course you can always donate to the general fun of the organization, and the money will go to where it’s needed most. Click on the logo below to get started.

SCREEN CAPS

This month we have well over 600 screen caps of the Hidden Hills episode 108 Coach Doug. The series is one of Louis’ all-time favorites, and he enjoyed playing Doug Barber, the average Joe dad whose life is one hilarious mess after another. In this episode, Doug’s trials and tribulations as his daughter’s soccer team’s coach are presented as a war story. When Doug invites one of his wife’s friend’s boyfriend to be his assistant coach things go terribly wrong – and terribly right!

THE 4th READING SERIES: MR. MUGS – ROCKETS AWAY!

The fourth monthly reading series continues in Mr. Mugs – Rockets Away! – Part 2  by Martha Kambeitz and Denise Burns.
Unlike previous readers, this volume was published as a hardcover book within the Level 3 series of the Mr. Mugs readers. It was originally released in 1968. The Mr. Mugs books have been out of print for many years but occasionally you can find them on eBayAmazon Marketplace or various other antique book dealers.

Louis credits the Mr. Mugs books series with helping him to learn English at a very young age.

You can listen to all the previous book readings under the Reading Series Tab, and you can read and listen to the first half of this book herehttps://www.louisferreira.org/the-4th-reading-series/

Here is this month’s chapter.

Chapter 52: The Guess Who Zoo – Part 2

… to be continued next month!

Part 2

All the boys and girls in the class
worked and worked on the Guess Who Zoo.
By Monday morning the animals were ready.

“This giraffe looks like a real one,”
laughed Pat. “Look at that neck!”

“Yes,” said Mrs. Cook. “That does look
like a real one. Who made it?”

“Bill and I did,” answered Pat.

“Look at the ears,”
Bill laughed. “They’re
my good ones!”

Mrs. Cook liked the ears.

Aryn posts daily regulatory techniques to combat anxiety and support mental health. Check out their web page as well!

Today’s Regulatory Tip: The 4-7-8 Breathing Technique

Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, exhale for 8 — this simple technique helps reduce blood pressure and heart rate, bringing you from a heightened state to a calmer one. Perfect for when life feels overwhelming, or you need a quick reset on set.

The 4-7-8 breath encourages relaxation by shifting the nervous system from “fight or flight” to “rest and digest.”
It’s like pressing the body’s reset button for calm and clarity.
Try it out today to feel the difference!

The Affolter Brothers

The Brothers’ recent film Altona played at the Vancouver Horror Show (VHS) Film Festival last month.

Altona uses a mix of archival footage, animation and survivor interviews to tell the harrowing story of two teenagers who were assaulted and left to die in a burning house in Altona, Manitoba.

Ingrid Rogers

“Some days my intention wanes… projects get stalled or health goals move excruciatingly slow or the sprinkler system breaks… and I start to feel defeated.
But then I remember that outlook is everything. Solutions come from optimism and action.
When doubt or despair start to creep in I diminish them with action. Honestly doesn’t matter what the action is, just some forward motion… a walk or hit the gym, send an email or organize my desk… I move from a stuck position and the action initiates change.
Right away my life force kicks in and I feel brighter and grateful, optimistic and unstoppable.
We can do life or let life do us. The decision is ours.
If you’re feeling stuck, get into action and reignite your intention.
We’ve got this.
Much love,
Ingrid”

Rob Munic

“I don’t always speak good (see what I did there?) I rarely use proper grammar – I can’t spell for sh*t and as a writer, my typing skills are a thing of chaotic beauty.

But I will say this, fewer times in my life have I ever agreed more with street art. This personification of me is spot on.

Hope we all continue to speak love!”

Peter Kelamis

Peter has been busy on the convention circuit, doing mostly appearances for his voice-actor work…

He was at the Dothan, Alabama Anime Fest on November 16…

… and at the Tulsa, Oklahoma Anime Fest on November 13.

Peter was also a guest on the Magic Making Mischief Podcast on October 29.

Listen to it here or click on the announcement poster on the left!

Peter is always a joy to listen to – he has many funny stories to tell, and his impersonations are always spot-on!
