Everything Put Together is streaming on Amazon Prime Video

Everything Put Together is a 2000 drama film that explores the dark side of suburban life and the impact of loss. A seemingly idyllic California community is shattered when a young couple, Angie and Russ, are expecting their first child, their happiness mirroring the sunshine of their community. But tragedy strikes when their newborn dies unexpectedly. As Angie spirals into grief, the façade of normalcy cracks. The film explores the couple’s struggle, the impact on their friends, and the unsettling realization that the picture-perfect world they built may be nothing but a fragile illusion.

Everything Put Together features Radha Mitchell as Angie and Louis Ferreira as her partner Russ. The cast is rounded out by Megan Mullally and Matt Malloy.

The synopsis of Everything Put Together is as follows:

“In a quiet suburban community where everything is peaceful and in its place, a single crack has just appeared. Angie and Russ are a young married couple with a bright future. Angie is pregnant and expecting to join her circle of friends in happy motherhood, but fate has other plans.”

Alex Appel

Alex is the producer of a new film about folk singer Ani DiFranco that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York last week:
1-800-ON-HER-OWN.

Logline:

Ani DiFranco is an unmistakable talent who shook the ‘90s folk music scene. Her voice, unique in its tone and power, and her songwriting, full of activism and assertiveness, became a beacon particularly to young women who saw themselves in her lyrics and style. In 1990, she started Righteous Babe Records, creating a path to independently release her own music and proving herself as an artist that would do things her way despite the traditional routes.

In 1-800-ON-HER-OWN, Tribeca alum Dana Flor explores the life of DiFranco today, still touring and making new music, but now with a partner and two children who understandably lure her home. Beautifully vulnerable in her willingness to bring the audience into the ups-and-downs of a very famous yet still struggling to be heard artist, the film is a testament to DiFranco’s rock solid stature as an iconic musician, unwavering in her artistry. ––Liza Domnitz

Best wishes for your new film, Alex!

SO BERRY NUTRITIOUS

Our friend Jackie has an Instagram feed for sharing her culinary creations. Every month she contributes a recipe you can all try out, knowing that the result will be both nutritious and delicious!

Chocolate Ganache Torte

“This one is for all of you chocolate lovers who enjoy decadent and rich desserts. I made this Torte during my vegan desserts culinary training, it was definitely one that kept me coming back for more.”

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups raw pecans
3 tbsp maple sugar
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 tbsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp chipotle powder
1 tbsp coconut oil

Method:
Combine the pecans, maple sugar, salt, cinnamon and chipotle powder in a food processor and blend.
Add the coconut oil and process until the mixture is finely minced, but not a paste. The consistency should resemble a graham cracker crust.

Scrape the mixture into a 9-inch fluted tart pan.
Using your hands, press the crust into the pan, taking care that the crust is in an even, firm layer over the bottom and up the sides of the pan.
Set aside.

Preparing the Filling:

Ingredients:
1/2 cup raw almond butter
1/2 cup Date Paste
1/4 cup agave maple syrup
4 tbsp coconut oil
1 1/2 tbsp coconut aminos
1 vanilla bean, scraped
1 cup raw cacao powder
1/2 to 1 cup filtered water

Method:
Place the almond butter, date paste, maple syrup, coconut oil, coconut aminos and vanilla bean in a food processor and blend.
Add the cacao powder and about half of the water and process until smooth, adding water as needed. The final mixture should still be quite thick, so do not add too much water. This will ensure the torte sets nicely. The amount of water you will need will depend on how thick your date paste was and the type of blender or machine you used.
Pour the chocolate filling into the tart crust.
Transfer to the freezer and chill for about about 20 minutes to firm up or, refrigerate for about 1 hour or until fully set.
