HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LOUIS!

THE 2025 BIRTHDAY PROJECT
The fundraising portion of the 2025 Birthday Project is now concluded! We managed to collect 1100 birthday wishes, which translates into $110.00US or $156.00Canadian.
The money has been sent to Haven Toronto‘s general fund to be used where it’s needed most.

Thanks to everyone who sent in wishes, graphics or pictures – everything was included and counted in the total.
If you missed it this time, no worries – since Louis will be out of the country until April we will continue to collect birthday wishes until his return, but if you want to help raise money please send your contribution directly to one of our featured charities (see below for links).
Please join me in thanking our friend Cindy who sponsored the Birthday Project in memory of her husband Richard who used to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and was a big believer in fair housing policies.

CALLING OUR FRIENDS IN EUROPE: MEET LOUIS AND JACKIE IN PERSON!

Louis and Jackie will spend the next two months in Europe. In between filming Season 2 of House of David, they plan on traveling through the whole continent, and they want to meet YOU!
Yes, you!
If you live in Europe and would like to show Louis and Jackie around your hometown and the area, share a meal and have tons of photo ops, please let us know. Send an email with your address, when you’ll be there, and an easy means to contact you (cell phone and email). Everything will be forwarded straight to Louis and he’ll be in touch to set up a meeting with you if it’s near his itinerary. Since they are mostly “winging it” there are no guarantees – but you have nothing to lose by volunteering!
If you’ve always wanted to meet the man in person – now is your chance!

CHARITIES NEWS
Ability Online
February 26th is Pink Shirt Day and we encourage everyone to wear pink to show they stand up to bullying. Ability Online has been bully free for more than 34 years!
What price tag would you put on kindness? Kindness is actually priceless, and is one of those qualities that multiplies when given.
At Ability Online, our members (young people with disabilities/ health challenges) come to our safe online community because they have been teased and bullied. We need to show them what kindness feels like, and help it multiply.
In honor of Pink Shirt Day, we are asking you to donate a virtual hug to an Ability Online member. Show them you stand up to bullying, and that you care. Our goal is to send 800 hugs by February 26th, one for each member.
Did you know?
- This year’s theme for Pink Shirt Day is “Let Kindness Grow”
- Youth with disabilities are often bullied more than their peers
- We stand up to bullying year-round with a safe, online space for our members to connect
- Everyone benefits from a virtual hug. It’s just as heartfelt and meaningful!
To send a virtual hug please click here or on the pink koala above!
To make a contribution to the general fund of Ability Online and ensure that kids with disabilities always have a safe, monitored and bully free online platform, please click on the logo below.

Haven Toronto
From a recent article in The Bridge:
“The lack of affordable housing disproportionately affects the people we work with, who are mostly seniors,” explains Robin Griller, executive director of Haven Toronto and St. Michael’s Homes.
The latter provides continuous care programs and services for men, including 75 beds in four residential settings, out-patient counselling, and psychotherapy.
The two Ontario charities are set to merge on April 1.
Haven Toronto, in the Garden District at 170 Jarvis Street, is a drop-in center for men aged 50 and older. Open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 365 days of the year, it supports men affected by poverty, homelessness and isolation. To address food insecurity, it daily provides breakfast, lunch and a snack to its clients. A clothing room offers wardrobe essentials from toques and coats to underwear and socks. An accessible washroom and showers are available, and laundry can be done on the premises. Social workers, nurses and dental hygienists are present, even barbers.
This year’s Birthday Project raised 156$ (Canadian) that were sent to Haven Toronto on Louis’ birthday on February 20th.
If you missed this year’s Birthday Project fundraiser you can also give to the general operating fund of the organization directly by clicking on the logo below. Please note that you will be linked to our very own donations page which still bears the former name of the shelter – The Good Neighbours Club. Your donation will still arrive at Haven Toronto. You may also want to donate to their partner organization, St. Michael’s Homes.

The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada
Our long-time contact at Children’s Aid Foundation, Hannah Scott, writes:
“I want to introduce you to my colleague, Robin Sagi. Robin is our Donor Engagement Officer, and she’ll be taking over the CAFC-Friends of Louis Ferreira relationship as I have made the tough but bittersweet decision to leave the Foundation to pursue another opportunity. My last day will be March 19. Starting in March, Robin will send you story ideas for your newsletter and as always, you can also check out our website for more up-to-date information. Thank you, Robin!”
We would like to thank Hannah for all her help with the newsletter for the past several years and wish her all the best in her future endeavors. We welcome Robin Sagi to our little corner of the internet and look forward to helping raise awareness of the plight of children in foster care.
Enshrined in Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, education is key to building independence, stability, and breaking the cycle of poverty – contributing to a brighter future for individuals, a thriving economy, and stronger communities.
Yet, in Ontario, children from the child welfare system have a less than 50% chance of completing high school and the lifetime earning power for a young person exiting the child welfare system is $326,000 less than the average Canadian.
That’s what drives us at Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada to improve educational outcomes for kids involved in child welfare. This International Day of Education, we’re reaffirming our commitment to creating equitable access to education for children from care. With your support, we can ensure ALL kids have the tools they need to succeed.
January 22 might be known as the saddest day of the year, but despite the gray days, chilly temperatures, and uncertainty in the world, we hope this reminder of the impact you made brings a smile to your face. In 2023-24:
— 16,073 children, youth, and families were supported.
— $13.8M funded programs to transform lives.
— 8,163 children and youth in care received essential support.
— 4,889 youth transitioning
We raised $500,000 during our holiday season campaign because you know like we do that education makes a child unstoppable.
Blue Monday doesn’t have to be blue. Your generosity is changing lives and building brighter futures one day at a time.

SCREEN CAPS
This month we have a special comedy treat for you – True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet, a television movie Louis did in 2008.
Logline:
Teenage actress Morgan Carter is a Hollywood princess, until the day that her hard-partying ways get the best of her. After she collapses outside of a Hollywood nightclub, Morgan’s mother and her partner Sam (Louis Ferreira) send her to live in the wilds of Fort Wayne, Indiana, with her Aunt Trudy (Valerie Bertinelli). Morgan is camouflaged into Claudia Miller and given a new hairstyle, and suddenly, Morgan, albeit unwillingly, blends in with her peers who do not own televisions or read magazines.

THE 4th READING SERIES: MR. MUGS – ROCKETS AWAY!
The fourth monthly reading series continues in Mr. Mugs – Rockets Away! – Part 2 by Martha Kambeitz and Denise Burns.
Unlike previous readers, this volume was published as a hardcover book within the Level 3 series of the Mr. Mugs readers. It was originally released in 1968. The Mr. Mugs books have been out of print for many years but occasionally you can find them on eBay, Amazon Marketplace or various other antique book dealers.
Louis credits the Mr. Mugs books series with helping him to learn English at a very young age.
You can listen to all the previous book readings under the Reading Series Tab, and you can read and listen to the first half of this book here.
Here is this month’s chapter.

Regulate with 5 Minutes in the Sun
Did you know that just 5 minutes in natural sunlight can do wonders for your body and mind?
Boost Your Mood: Sunlight triggers serotonin, the “feel-good” hormone, which helps with stress, focus, and emotional balance.
Reset Your Body: Sun exposure regulates your circadian rhythm, making it easier to stay energized during long shoots or night scenes and improving sleep after those intense filming days.
Ground Yourself: Feeling drained? A quick step outside into natural light can recharge your energy and bring clarity to those chaotic moments on set or in everyday life.
For Performers & Crew: When days stretch long and indoor shooting feels endless, stepping outside for 5 minutes can refresh your mind, regulate emotions, and help you bring your best to the screen.
Whether you’re navigating a hectic workday or simply feeling overwhelmed in life, a short break in the sun can reset your nervous system, lower stress, and support mental well-being.
Make a habit of stepping outside when you can—your body and mind will thank you!
Try it out, and let me know how it feels!
