Haven Toronto
We are honored and grateful that the Honorable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, has agreed to be Haven Toronto‘s Honorary Patron. Madame Dumont is the 30th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
The first Francophone to hold the office, she was appointed following a long and distinguished career in education.
Being chosen again by a Lieutenant Governor of Ontario as an honorary Patron Organization recognizes Haven’s important contribution to the community. We are grateful for Her Honor’s concern and attention to the people we serve.
We’ve been busy at Haven Toronto, delivering critical support to our elder, homeless, and marginally housed members in need. The Q2 impact numbers (April, May, June 2024) below further validate the growing needs in the community and why your steadfast support is so impactful.
We are in need of some travel-size toiletry essentials for our members!
Please consider donating the items listed below, or contributing directly via our website.
The list includes but is not limited to:
Shampoos
Conditioner
Soap
Razors
Deodorant
Toothpaste
Toothbrushes
Shaving cream
Thank you to all who contributed to making our summer clothing drive a resounding success on July 10th. We received thousands of items of clothing plus monetary donations.
Our members have already benefited by accessing what they need from our clothing room. We accept donations all year round. You can drop off new or gently used items at our 170 Jarvis Street location between 8AM-4PM daily.
If you don’t have clothing to donate, you can purchase clothing kits from our Kits for a Cause portal.
Of course you can also give to the general operating fund of the organization by clicking on the logo below. Please note that you will be linked to our very own donations page which still bears the former name of the shelter – The Good Neighbours Club. Your donation will still arrive at Haven Toronto. You may also wish to donate to their partner organization, St. Michael’s Homes.
The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada
Discover businesses, services and organizations owned by youth from child welfare operating and supporting local communities across Canada. Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada has compiled a directory of businesses led or owned by young people who are currently or formerly served by child welfare agencies across Canada. Originally shared at 2024 Stand Up for Kids Night, the directory demonstrates the incredible value youth bring to our communities, and allows the Foundation’s donors and allies and other former youth from care a new way to support lived experts.
Sometimes as young as 16, youth from child welfare can be left on their own, without access to support.
As a charity for children and youth, we help fill the gaps by providing mental health, housing, education and employment support so that they can build a life of independence.
Donate now to help youth thrive by clicking here!
You can always access the latest news and events online! Help kids in foster care get a good start in life by making a donation – every penny helps! Click on the logo below, it’s easy and secure.

Louis credits the Mr. Mugs books series with helping him to learn English at a very young age.

SO BERRY NUTRITIOUS
Our friend Jackie has an Instagram feed for sharing her culinary creations. Every month she contributes a recipe you can all try out, knowing that the result will be both nutritious and delicious!
Vegetable Risotto
“Risotto is the ultimate comfort food that you won’t regret taking the time to make.
Happy cooking friends!”
Ingredients:
5 cups vegetable stock (more might be needed, water can be used if using a strong stock, light broth is suggested)
1/2 tsp sea salt (or to taste)
1/2 cup onions, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup risotto Arborio rice
2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 cup white wine
1/2 cup peas
1/2 cup carrots, diced
1/2 cup green beans, diced
Chives, diced (for garnish)
Method:
- Place the broth into a pot and bring to a boil.
- Cook the carrots and beans in broth until tender. Strain liquid into another pot and set veggies aside. Keep the cooking liquid hot.
- Add the oil to a large heavy bottomed pan and heat over medium.
- Add the onions and a pinch of salt and sweat until soft and translucent.
- Turn the heat up to medium-high and add the rice all at once. Stir to coat the rice in the hot fat. Monitor the heat so the aromatics do not burn. Toast the rice for a few minutes until the perimeter of the grains are translucent.
- Once toasted, add the garlic and cook, stirring just until the garlic is fragrant, about 30 seconds. Deglaze the pan with the wine. Stir the rice until the wine evaporates.
- Once the wine has evaporated, slowly add the hot liquid cup by cup and stir. Adjust the heat so the liquid is always gently boiling. Once the liquid has been absorbed completely, add the next cup. Stir frequently.
- Continue to add liquid and cook the risotto until it reaches the al dente stage (or until it is done to your liking). This process usually takes 45 mins or sometimes longer.
- Once the risotto has been cooked to your liking, taste it for seasoning. Next, fold in the cooked beans and carrots and peas.
- Drizzle with a bit of olive oil and garnish with chives. Serve immediately.
