Haven Toronto
We’re excited to announce the integration of Haven Toronto with St. Michaels’ Homes (SMH). Like Haven, SMH is a charitable not-for-profit Ontario corporation. Existing since 1974, SMH provides a continuous-care model of programs and services for men, including seventy-five beds in four residential settings, out-patient counselling, and psychotherapy. Familiar with the drop-in sector, SMH also operate a drop-in that serves both men and women living in the community who are experiencing mental health issues. In brief, this integration makes perfect sense for both organizations:
- Renewing our dedication to serving complex, underhoused clients;
- Bringing together our complementary strengths in clinical, fundraising, and organizational capacity; and,
- Combining to create an agency with revenues of $5M/year, making the new organization more attractive to funders and foundations.
This integration will preserve the mission of Haven Toronto to older, homeless men and of St. Michael’s Homes to those with mental health and substance use problems for another generation.
Did you know we host bingo events here at Haven Toronto? It is community activities like this that help keep our members engaged and supported. Plus, we give out prizes!
What is your favorite game to play with friends?
We are so grateful to have community barbers such as those from Onyx Barbers provide such a service to the members at Haven Toronto!
A little bit of dignity goes a long way.
Of course you can also give to the general operating fund of the organization by clicking on the logo below. Please note that you will be linked to our very own donations page which still bears the former name of the shelter – The Good Neighbours Club. Your donation will still arrive at Haven Toronto.

THE 4th READING SERIES: MR. MUGS – ROCKETS AWAY!
The fourth monthly reading series continues in Mr. Mugs – Rockets Away! – Part 2 by Martha Kambeitz and Denise Burns.
Unlike previous readers, this volume was published as a hardcover book within the Level 3 series of the Mr. Mugs readers. It was originally released in 1968. The Mr. Mugs books have been out of print for many years but occasionally you can find them on eBay, Amazon Marketplace or various other antique book dealers.
Louis credits the Mr. Mugs books series with helping him to learn English at a very young age.
You can listen to all the previous book readings under the Reading Series Tab, and you can read and listen to the first half of this book here. https://www.louisferreira.org/the-4th-reading-series/
Here is this month’s chapter.

Chapter 48: The Guess Who Zoo Part 1
… to be continued next month!
One day the class was talking.
Bill thought it would be a good idea to make
a Guess Who Zoo.
“A Guess Who Zoo? What’s that?”
George wanted to know.
“It’s zoo that we can make here
in class. We can make the animals
and then ask Mrs. Day’s class to come in
and guess. May we do that, Mrs. Cook?”
he asked.
“Yes, that sounds good,” said Mrs. Cook.
“First, let’s talk about the animals
we should have in our zoo. Then,
when we’ve thought about them,
I’ll put down your ideas.”
