CHARITIES NEWS
Ability Online
Hopefully you were able to catch the Virtual Concert in Support of Ability Online on Friday September 17th, 5 p.m. It was truly an “Up Close & Personal” music experience with some amazing performers. Stand by for more memories!
About Ability Gives
Ability Gives is a program of the registered charity Ability Online, and was launched in Toronto Ontario Canada with very generous support from the Pollack Family. The program opened to Ability Online members in the Spring of 2012 as a unique adjunct to the online program for the children with disabilities.
To date more than 200 children have received an Ability Gives equipment grant but we always have families waiting for funding.
Grant recipients are all members of Ability Online and their stories are both heart-wrenching and heart-warming. The parents face their child’s challenges with determination and hope that with the right kind of support they can help their child reach his or her potential. Your support is critical for the increased independence and enhanced quality of life of these incredible children, and just know that every dollar counts!
Having a child with a disability brings a unique set of challenges to parents, from learning how to manage their health needs to wanting to help them achieve their personal best.
It’s a 24/7 undertaking! And then you add in all the “extras”, the adapted equipment, specialized seating, therapy, writing aids etc. that quickly drain financial resources. While there are some financial supports available, the full cost is not always covered or a family may not meet all the eligibility requirements, and it is that amount that may prevent a child from getting what he/she needs to be as self-sufficient as possible.
There is no greater gift for these children than the gift of independence. Ability Gives is a Canadian equipment grant program (thanks to the generosity of the Pollack Family) for members of Ability Online who have a child with a disability or complex medical condition under 18 years of age. We need to help these families because they can’t do it alone!
One by one, you can make a difference.
Of course you can always donate to the general operating fund of Ability Online by clicking on the logo below!
Project Limelight
The mission of Project Limelight is to create an environment that will allow youth to develop a strong sense of self and to unleash their imagination. The program provides a nurturing community that supports their development through participation in the performing arts. Project Limelight gives young people a sense of confidence, self-assurance and creative freedom that will be carried forward outside of the initiative and into their school and home life.
While productions and workshops are currently on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic please help to provide them with a running start and donate what you can by clicking on the logo below.
Haven Toronto
Haven Toronto is Toronto’s only daytime shelter for elder homeless men. Besides their many services they are also tireless advocates for society’s least supported members.
Our FREE eMagazine helps readers better understand the issues around poverty, homelessness, isolation and mental illness. In the process, we change perspectives, eliminate stereotypes, and reduce the stigma.
Stereotypes have people fearing “the homeless”. Yet it’s elder homeless men who should be afraid. They are more vulnerable to abuse, attacks and violence.

Topics in this month’s newsletter:
Foot For Thought
Over 40% of homeless men wear shoes that do not fit. This has serious consequences. Understand the importance of foot health to people who are homeless.
Walk A Mile Or Ten In Their Shoes
Elder homeless men walk, on average, 15km a day to access supports vital to their health and wellbeing. Help can be a walk in the park, the question is, how far will you go to help?
The Cost Of Art
Mental illness is sometimes the source of creativity for artists, from painters to authors to actors. We look at one such person, Edvard Munch, and the price he paid for his art.
Take A Hike
At first glance, hiking is a terrific way to see nature and be healthy. But there’s more to it than meets the eye. Here are 5 Ways Hiking Is Good For You.
Ten Top Hikes In Ontario
A quick search on AllTrails PRO, a hiking app for your smartphone, and you will find trails to walk, hike, run and bike that are just minutes from you. Learn about the 10 Top Hikes in Ontario.
6 Degrees of Separation
Homelessness can happen to anyone. To put it in perspective, 6 Degrees of Separation showcases celebrity experiences with poverty and homelessness.
The Scream Emoji
‘The Scream‘ is the inspiration behind one of the most popular and commonly used emojis today. What inspired Edvard Munch to paint the timeless masterpiece?
Tales Of Toronto
Tales of Toronto are true client stories of poverty, homelessness and isolation. They demonstrate some of the challenges facing elder homeless men – experiences that most people will never know.
If you want to make an immediate positive impact on an elder homeless man’s life, consider shopping at Haven Toronto’s Shop & Share Site. Anything you purchase there goes directly to someone in need.
There is something for every budget! From a single meal to an entire dinner for everyone, from a pair of socks to an entire cold-weather outfit – you’ll find something that fits your plans. It’s hassle-free – just shop and enjoy the feeling of having made a difference!
Of course you can also give to the general operating fund of the organization by clicking on the logo below. Please note that you will be linked to our very own donations page which still bears the former name of the shelter – The Good Neighbours Club. Your donation will still arrive at Haven Toronto.

SCREEN CAPS
This month we have 335 screen caps from Riverdale season 5 episode 12 Chapter Eighty-Eight: Citizen Lodge. Chapter 14: Such Lovely Things to Hear and See
Chapter 14: Such Lovely Things to Hear and See
Such lovely things
to hear and see
Belong to you,
belong to me!
The sun. the trees,
the grass, the sky,
the silver moon
that’s sailing by.
Soft whispering winds,
the birds that sing,
Bright autumn leaves
gay flowers of spring,
The rain and dew
and snowflakes white,
The sparkling waves,
the stars of night.

We have a new cat! A friend was fostering a young 18 month old cat and we are taking her over. Her name is Pebbles and she’s a super cute tabby from Winnipeg. She got frostbite and had part of her ears removed so she looks a little different, – cuter actually! Now that she is ours we have to slowly introduce her to our 10 year old cat.
And that, dear Friends, is about it for this month! Thanks for visiting often! Be sure to follow us on Twitter for all the Louis news you can handle and TV reminders!
