CHARITIES NEWS

Ability Online

Ability Online's next big fundraiser Happily Ever Laughter is next week on October 24th!
Go here to get tickets, and you can look forward to an evening of fun, all for a good cause!

Ability Gives - Lucas

Lucas is a friendly 7 year old and has the same interests as many of his peers. He was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy.

Obstacles
Lucas is nonverbal and has trouble communicating. He isn’t able to use sign language as he doesn’t have enough control in his arms and hands.

Solutions
For the past 6 months Lucas has been actively seeing the Assistive Devices Resource Team with Erin Oak and they have been trialing the iPad and eye gaze systems. He has shown that he is capable when using the right set up and size. Because Lucas has difficulty using his hands, the larger the target surface the better. They have recommended that he use an IPad for communication and to continue to practice his skills in order to move forward with an eye gaze system next.

Goal
As Lucas is severely affected from his cerebral palsy he is unable to independently access the world; however, if he is given the power to communicate with others it can open up his whole world. He won’t always need his mom to be around to read his cues, he can use technology and his own ability to reach out and socialize as well as advocate for himself.
Your assistance in accessing the IPad Pro 12.9 inch screen would be amazing. Unfortunately as a single parent who has had to purchase so many disability related goods and services this year his mom would be unable to afford this for her son. As the days, weeks and months go by valuable practice time is lost.

Click here to donate and help Lucas explore the world! The campaign runs through the end of the month.

If you can't make it to the fundraiser please consider buying a "virtual ticket"! It's so easy - simply click on the logo below and make a donation of any amount, and help disabled kids have a safe and bully-free online experience!

SCREENCAPS

This month we have 429 screencaps from the Motive Season 2 episode They Made Me A Criminal.

Synopsis:
The killer: Sophia Balfour, a dance studio owner/instructor. The victim: Dustin McEvers, a low level blue collar criminal, who according to Chris Renway, his professional and personal partner, purportedly was trying to go straight following the birth of their still infant offspring. Chris, however, admits that Dustin still did "collection" on his drug dealing business, a collection which is where he went when she last saw him. Dustin's death, on the surface, looks to be a simple case of self defense by Sophia's husband, Miles Balfour, after Miles, who was alone at home at the time, reported that Dustin broke in in what was probably an attempted robbery, as Dustin was armed, the gun in his hand which could not have been placed there post-mortem. Miles' self-defense argument starts to fall apart upon further examination of Dustin's fatal wound. Miles protecting Sophia as the actual killer starts to come to light based on a previous non-trust issue between husband and wife, and discovery of an old bruise on Sophia's shoulder. Elsewhere, Angie secretly confesses to Oscar her and Cross' past personal involvement gone bad after Oscar witnesses a needless antagonistic professional encounter between the two.

In this episode Louis is working with Jennifer Beals who plays Sophia. He had previously worked with her on Night Owl, and recently again on the Taken pilot.

You can listen to the book readings on the Reading Series Page.
Here is this month's chapter.

Bucketheads - A look at Troy's character TK-423, by Marco Bossow

Another week, another still from Bucketheads. Today we're introducing our protagonist TK-423, portrayed both physically and vocally by one of the most talented and dedicated actors I happen to know, Troy Mundle.

"To be a warrior is to learn to be genuine in every moment of your life." TK-423 is a soldier of conviction, and by the same token a force to be reckoned with. A hardened veteran, Four-Three has earned the hearts of his comrades through combat prowess and an unwavering loyalty to the Empire.

Outwardly, TK-423 appears to be a model soldier. However, unbeknownst to those around him, Four-Three harbors a deep secret, one that threatens to destroy the very life he's built.

Troy is currently working with Amanda Alexander on the CW show Life Sentence, and, because it's a small world after all, he found Aidan Ferreira on the grounds. Somehow this photo might look familiar... like father, like son...

Jeff Cathrow

Jeff has some great news! After many months of preparation Studio EL has launched a collection of Jeff's photos!

From the official website (Jeff's work is being featured in their current showcase):

Tradition has never been so timeless.

This collection of film photographs from Jeff Cathrow is a reminder that before digital, there was a subtle art to photography. A consideration of light, density, composition, aperture and luck all had to be perfectly balanced and in a single instant, an artist had to know when to shoot. Click, wind, refocus. The process slow. Intimate. And required endless patience. Cathrow travels the world in search of evocative imagery, veins in rock formation, scenes from a Parisian cafe, rusty artifacts from a deserted gold-town.

Cathrow started his career in 1975 with a borrowed camera and a motorcycle trip to Baja California and the adventures ensued. Most recently, his home of Rockport, Texas was hit badly by Hurricane Harvey. After evacuating, he returned to his town to find varying degrees of devastation. This collection of his work, though predating the storm, is a retrospective of Cathrow's life of adventure which is still as exciting as ever.

"Brief jaunts with friends or family, motorcycle wanderings, sudden sojourns and months of living abroad have enriched my life beyond what I might have expected... because i carried my camera and was always able to capture slices of time and life along the way. I am fortunate in what I have amassed over the last 40 years [in this portfolio] and I am happy to share them with others now." -- Jeff Cathrow

Please join us at Studio EL in welcoming this artist into our collection and through sales of this body of work, help his community rebuild.
