Haven Toronto

Were you inspired by the 457 birthday cards for Louis? Help a WW2 veteran beat this number! Haven Toronto participated in sending Fred Arsenault a birthday card - please consider sending one as well!!

Our friend Lauro Monteiro has been at Haven Toronto for 10 years. Congrats! Lauro is a tireless advocate for the homeless, fighting for equal housing rights and calling out ageism in hiring processes. Under his leadership Haven Toronto has initiated several new programs, from medical support to online access for homeless elder men, as well as upgrades to the shelter building and a major website and outreach overhaul.

The February issue of Haven Toronto's online news magazine is available now - and it features lots of informative articles and very practical advice on how all of us can help. Click on the image on the right to read it now!

If you want to have an immediate impact and help an elder homeless man get through the brutal Toronto winter please consider shopping at Haven Toronto's Shop & Share store. Anything you purchase there goes directly to a man in need and there is something for every budget, from single meals to entire winter outfits.

Of course you can also give to the general operating fund of the organization by clicking on the logo below. Please note that you will be linked to our very own donations page which still bears the former name of the shelter - The Good Neighbours Club. Your donation will still arrive at Haven Toronto.

THE NEW READING SERIES: MR. MUGS - TAKE A PEEK!

The third monthly reading series continues in Mr. Mugs - Take A Peek! by Martha Kambeitz, Denise Burns and Josephine Proctor. It is almost identical to the volume Mr. Mugs - Peek In Please! except for 11 pages which served as non-religious substitutes for the bible stories.

Louis credits the Mr. Mugs books series with helping him to learn English at a very young age. The Mr. Mugs books have been out of print for many years but occasionally you can find them on eBay, Amazon Marketplace or various other antique book dealers.

You can listen to the book readings on the Reading Series Page.
Here is this month's chapter.

Listen to the sound clip here:

Chapter 3c: Calling all Animals, p3

Snap, snap. I'll go down in a pond.
But I'll not tell you where it is.

And you, Rabbit.
What will you do?

I can go out to eat.
No one can see me in the winter.
And I have found a good house
   to sleep in.

Where is it?

I'll not tell you!
O-o-o-o-h!

Come back! Come back here.

... to be continued next month...
