Ability Gives

Ability Gives is the equipment fundraising division of the organization. This month they are sponsoring Gabriel.

13 year old Gabriel has been dreaming of owning his own adapted bike for over a year. Yesterday he made his own $10 donation! Please match this donation so we can show him how many people care!

Gabriel is a happy 13 year old boy. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was only 4 months old. They didn’t think he would even be able to sit up on his own, but he is able to walk with caution after hours and hours of painful exercises! He is a junior in high school now with plenty of homework.

Gabriel has to exercise 3 hours a day, which is often a painful experience for him.

Gabriel has given his own reasons for wanting an adapted bike. The first reason, Gabriel says, “I just want to go really fast in the open air outdoors. The second reason I want a bike is that I can exercise my legs by pedaling really hard. The third reason is I can go to school without anyone driving me, thus saving energy just a little bit."

“Owning a bike has been my dream,” says Gabriel. “Thanks for reading this and I hope you will help make my dream come true!”

Project Limelight

The mission of Project Limelight Society is to create an environment that will allow youth to develop a strong sense of self and to unleash their imagination. The program provides a nurturing community that supports their development through participation in the performing arts. Project Limelight gives young people a sense of confidence, self-assurance and creative freedom that will be carried forward outside of the initiative and into their school and home life.

Their latest project was a short film called The Girl With No Superpowers, and here is the gang at a recent screening.

To help support kids by providing them with a high-quality free performing arts education please click on the logo below to make a donation.

Haven Toronto

Haven Toronto is a daytime shelter for elder homeless men in Toronto. They are also at the forefront of raising awareness about homelessness and social justice in housing.

Rain Gear Needed!

Toronto had 50% more precipitation in April than the monthly average. And May is even worse.

But you can help make it better for someone who is homeless: You can purchase rain gear at Shop & Share - everything you buy there will go directly to an elder homeless man in need, no middle man, no paperwork required, and you receive a tax receipt.

If you want to know exactly where your money is going there is no easier way to help, and the site has merchandise for any budget - from small items to entire outfits.

In May of last year, CNBC reported that an estimated 60 percent of former NBA players go broke within five years of departing the league. And they reported 78 percent of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or under financial stress just two years after retirement. Poverty and homelessness are strongly correlated.

Be sure to check out this month's online magazine, which is as always full of useful information and inspiring articles.

Your donation is always welcome at Haven Toronto. If you want to help please click on the logo below to go to our very own donations web page. Please note that the page is under the former name of the organization - The Good Neighbours Club - but it will go to Haven Toronto all the same.

The Children's Aid Foundation of Canada
Last week was Children and Youth in Care Day in Ontario, a day to recognize the contri- butions made by current and former wards to the province, as well as the strength, bravery, and resilience shown by these young people in the face of adversity. Children And Youth In Care Day is a great opportunity to build awareness about the challenges and barriers faced by children and youth in  welfare, and to be an ally committed to supporting at-risk young people, but this is an important conversation that needs to be happening every day. Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada and our Stand Up for Kids movement exist to help Canada’s most vulnerable kids, those who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing abuse and neglect, live up to their full potential.

Jennifer Spence

Jen received a Leo Award nomination for Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series for her work on the Travelers episode Trevor. Congratulations, Jen - a well-deserved honor!

Jen has been cast as Professor Kathy Torrance in the new crime drama Traces, which will air on UKTV.

Traces is set in Scotland and explores the world of SIFA, the Scottish Institute of Forensic Science. The drama follows female characters – Emma Hedges, Prof. Sarah Gordon, and Prof. Kathy Torrance – who will use the rigors of forensics to uncover the truth about an unsolved murder case. When 23-year-old Emma returns to Scotland to take up a new position as a lab assistant at SIFA, she signs up to an online course that teaches the principles of forensic science. But she soon discovers that the fictitious case study has a strikingly similar and shocking link to her past. As Emma’s sleuthing takes her into darker corners and unlocks more and more secrets, it becomes clear that she should trust no one. It will be Sarah and Kathy’s exacting minds that reward Emma’s faith in the science that has fueled her imagination and ultimately bring a killer to justice.

Jen's series You Me Her will end after Season 5. It is currently airing on DirectTV's Audience Network.

Peter Kelamis

Peter is very honored to be hosting the Gala Evening at the 2019 LEO Awards. This is Peter's third time hosting the LEO's and second time hosting the Gala. When Peter asked why he was asked back, Walter Daroshin replied, "You've hosted three times, and we are going to keep bringing you back until you get it RIGHT!" So, in other words, look for Peter to be a LEO Awards Host for years to come.

Peter wishes the very best for all the Nominees in 2019, but mostly, he hopes that he himself walks away with a LEO Award this year. He is NOT nominated, but he is VERY hopeful.

So when you see Peter at the after the event, buy him a drink, because he is very important and knows people.

(Peter wrote the last paragraph of this Bio himself.)

Peter was guest starring in the May 9 episode of The Twilight Zone called Not All Men.
